Security forces have killed 13 alleged Indian-backed militants belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij in a series of intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted across Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan, the military’s media wing confirmed on Friday.
Multiple IBOs Target Militant Presence in KP
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the first operation was launched in Lakki Marwat after reports of militant presence. Troops engaged the suspects in an intense gun battle, during which 10 militants were killed on the spot.
A second IBO in Dera Ismail Khan resulted in the killing of three more militants, bringing the total to 13. The ISPR said the militants were part of “Indian-sponsored networks” involved in repeated attacks, including targeted killings of civilians and security personnel.
Weapons, ammunition and other materials were recovered from the site, the statement added.
Sanitisation Underway as Militancy Rises in KP
The military has initiated sanitisation operations in both districts to eliminate any remaining militants linked to the group. KP, which borders Afghanistan, has witnessed a fresh surge in militancy over the past few years, with the TTP and affiliated outfits frequently targeting law enforcement agencies, government officials, and security convoys.
Just a day earlier, security forces had reported killing 23 militants in Kurram district during similar operations.
Regional Tensions and Cross-Border Accusations
Pakistan has long maintained that India and elements inside Afghanistan support anti-Pakistan militant groups, including the TTP—an allegation both New Delhi and Kabul deny. The recent spike in violence has further strained ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Last month’s escalation led to fierce cross-border clashes, prompting the two countries to agree to a ceasefire in Doha on October 19. Despite the temporary calm, tensions remain high as Islamabad continues to demand firm action against groups using Afghan soil to launch attacks on Pakistani territory.
Security Forces Continue Counter-Terror Push
The fresh operations highlight the military’s continued resolve to dismantle militant networks and stabilize regions affected by terrorism. The ISPR reiterated that operations will persist until all threats linked to “Indian-sponsored Khawarij militants” are eliminated.
