**Digital Traffic Enforcement Takes Off in Karachi
In a major step toward smarter urban management, the Karachi Traffic Police have activated 1,076 surveillance cameras across the city to enhance traffic enforcement and ensure safer roads. The expansion is part of the city’s growing E-Challan system, aimed at digitizing traffic monitoring and curbing road violations through advanced technology.
According to an official spokesperson, the newly activated cameras have been strategically placed at major intersections, highways, and key public zones, enabling authorities to monitor traffic flow, identify violations, and respond quickly to incidents.
Smart Surveillance for a Smarter Karachi
The E-Challan initiative represents Karachi’s shift toward digital policing and smart governance, allowing the traffic police to detect violations such as signal jumping, over-speeding, and lane breaches in real time. Each camera feed is transmitted directly to the Traffic Control Center Karachi, where operators monitor road activity around the clock.
This central control system not only helps issue automated electronic challans (e-tickets) but also assists in managing congestion, emergencies, and accidents more efficiently.

Officials confirmed that the surveillance network extends across major arteries of Karachi, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, University Road, M.A. Jinnah Road, Korangi, and Clifton, among others. Cameras have also been installed near government buildings, schools, and commercial areas to enhance public safety and discourage reckless driving.
By integrating these systems, the traffic department aims to create a transparent and efficient traffic management framework, reducing dependence on manual checks and minimizing human error.
