Sindh Home Minister Orders Judicial Inquiry into Teen’s Custodial Death in Karachi

⚖️ Judicial Probe Ordered After Teen’s Mysterious Death

Karachi (Web Desk) – Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has ordered a judicial inquiry into the tragic custodial death of 18-year-old Muhammad Irfan, who allegedly died after being tortured while in police custody. The shocking incident has raised serious concerns about police conduct and human rights violations in Karachi.

🚨 The Incident: Teen Dies in Custody

According to reports, Muhammad Irfan and three of his friends were arrested by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on October 22. They were taken to the SIU/CIA Centre in Saddar, where Irfan’s health reportedly deteriorated.

SSP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh stated that Irfan was immediately shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Police officials initially claimed that the teenager suffered a heart attack, but Irfan’s family strongly rejected the explanation, alleging he was tortured to death.

🧾 Post-Mortem Findings Raise Questions

A post-mortem examination conducted at JPMC in the presence of a judicial magistrate revealed multiple injury marks on Irfan’s body, suggesting possible physical abuse. The findings contradicted the police version and intensified calls for accountability.

🕊️ Home Minister’s Response

Expressing sorrow over the incident, Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar directed the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) to begin a judicial inquiry and ensure a thorough forensic investigation. He emphasized that no one involved in the incident will be spared, stating,

“I feel sorry that the child has died in the custody of the police.”

Lanjar further instructed that modern investigative techniques be used to reach a logical conclusion and bring those responsible to justice.

🔍 Demand for Transparency and Accountability

The case has sparked public outrage, with citizens and rights groups demanding transparency and reforms in the police system. Many believe that justice in this case will serve as a test for the Sindh government’s commitment to upholding human rights and ensuring accountability within law enforcement agencies.
