Lahore to Get Its First Government-Backed Padel Courts

A Landmark Step for Emerging Sports in Pakistan

In an exciting development for Pakistan’s sports community, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced plans to construct the city’s first-ever government-backed padel courts. The initiative aims to make the rapidly growing racket sport more accessible to the public and promote a healthy, active lifestyle among Lahoris.

Details of the Project

According to LDA officials, two separate proposals have been drafted — one for building modern padel courts and another for creating a recreational park within the same area. The main facility will feature three world-class padel courts at Ali Park, Garden Town, complete with essential amenities such as parking spaces, walking tracks, an open-air gym, and a children’s play zone.

The project, estimated to cost over Rs. 200 million, will be financed entirely through LDA’s own funds. Chief Engineer-II Mazhar Hussain Khan briefed the LDA Director General on the plan, which is expected to receive formal approval soon. Each court will include modern lighting systems and infrastructure to support both daytime and nighttime play, ensuring year-round usability.

Green Light and Government Support

The LDA has already secured a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) for the designated site. This collaboration underscores the government’s growing commitment to supporting emerging sports in Pakistan, particularly those gaining international traction like padel.

Promoting Sports and Community Engagement

With padel gaining popularity in Pakistan’s private clubs and elite circles, the introduction of public padel courts in Lahore represents a turning point. It marks the government’s first major effort to promote padel at a community level, providing citizens with affordable access to world-class facilities.

The project not only promotes sports development but also aims to encourage social interaction, outdoor activity, and a healthier lifestyle among residents. Once completed, Lahore’s padel courts will serve as a model for similar initiatives in other cities across Pakistan.
